Masterclass with Barak Heymann: "Trust and involvement: how to build relationship with a documentary character?”

JCC Warszawa and 14. MFF Żydowskie Motywy (Jewish Motifs IFF) invite you to Masterclass workshops conducted by Barak Heymann, a leading Israeli documentary maker active in the director-producer duet with his brother Tomer (Tomer Heymann) on May 24th, 2018 at 7:00 p.m.!

During workshops Barak Heymann and the participants will try to answer the question: according to what rules a film director should shape his relation with the character he portraits, i.e. a fundamental factor for success of documentary? How to deserve his/her trust and to get the reliable and dramatically valuable film material? We will also discuss the problem how to solve moral dilemma connected with registering and publicizing the most intimate moments from characters’ life, while not infringing their dignity and sense of security.

This session will be conducted in English.

Heymann brothers document in their films the complex social and political reality of Israel, focusing on human rights issues, ethnic and sexual minorities and social stigmatization. Their
productions are characterized by personal perspective and deep relationships with the characters and are acclaimed at the major film festivals – they won Audience Awards at Berlinale and Krakow Film Festival (Who’s Gonna Love me Now?, 2016).
